Material Test Grid Generator
Generate a power/speed test grid for any material. Choose your machine, set your ranges, download an SVG (imports into LightBurn) or firmware-aware GRBL G-code with full safety checklist. The only free tool that generates machine-specific, M4-aware G-code.

All tools on this site are:
- 100% client-side — JavaScript runs in your browser; no server receives your inputs
- Free, always — no signup, no paywall, no premium tier
- Persistent — your last settings are saved in your browser's localStorage so you don't re-enter them every time
- Safety-gated — banned and transparent materials show warnings instead of test grids
What makes the test grid generator different?
Most "laser settings calculators" just multiply a base number by a wattage ratio. The Material Test Grid Generator does something genuinely different:
- Firmware-aware G-code: generates GRBL commands with the correct M4/M3 mode,
$32=1reminders, work-origin setup instructions, and a dry-run/framing note. Wrong G-code wastes material and can damage machines. - Physical SVG output: the SVG has correct mm dimensions so it imports at the right physical size in LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, and other laser software.
- Safety gate: selecting a banned material (PVC, ABS, polycarbonate, etc.) shows a warning with the chemistry explanation instead of generating a test grid.
- No account required: the only free G-code material test grid generator that doesn't require signup.
Settings Database
Once you've found your machine's settings with the test grid, check the settings database for aggregated, sourced starting points across 5W–40W machines. Each number carries a source tag and confidence label.
